The best way to follow up

Youâve probably received, and ignored, variants of these follow up messages. Goodness knows, youâve probably sent them!
Itâs so frustrating when a customer or colleague âghostsâ you. Despite promises to the contrary, they ignore your calls or emails and leave you in the dark.
So, how best to re-engage them?
Members of my Just Do This program are finding that out right now with the latest lesson going live.
But if youâre not already a member, some thoughts to get you started:
-
People go quiet because they shift from âhot stateâ to âcold stateâ, and thatâs got a lot to do with perceived effort.
-
To manage 'Slumpland', we can do things in the initial meeting (leaving breadcrumbs) as well as use specific wording to re-open the lines of communication when weâre following up.
-
A key strategy is to externalise the reason for contacting them, steering fault for the lack of communication away from being theirs.
-
There are 3 things you definitely shouldnât do, and one of them is using the phrase âfollowing upâ!
Whatâs the best follow-up youâve ever received? Do you have success using a specific turn of phrase?
