Perceived vs Achieved
Bri Williams
One of the criticisms of Simon Sinek’s book “Start With Why?” was that it could have been 100 pages shorter.
It’s the same with many best sellers.
Readers are like “We get it. Move On. Stop padding it out.”
It’s the same with overblown movies and conferences that have programs stuffed fuller than the lunch buffet.
There’s a disconnect here.
People buy on quantity but value quality.
In other words, there’s a difference between perceived value and achieved value.
👉 Perceived value is why we have overlong books, movies and conferences. Buyers perceive “more” represents value.
👉 But achieved value is what people actually experience. It’s the magic of them being moved to a new understanding or feeling.
The sad reality is Simon Sinek couldn’t have sold his book to a publisher had it been 50 pages.
A short movie won’t draw people to pay for their seat at the theatre.
A conference program with lots of “time to ingest and reflect” will struggle to justify its ticket price.
👉👉👉 People say they want more, when in fact they are hungry for less.
